  • Ultrasound of the Shoulder: Preoperative and Postoperative Approaches

    PROGRAM OVERVIEW

Whether you’re from orthopedics, physiatry or non-operative sports medicine, this course addresses the utility of diagnostic and therapeutic US in the care and treatment of common shoulder problems. What makes this course unique and first-of-its-kind is the emphasis from the pre operative assessment and shoulder ultrasound imaging to postop imaging for the needs in those patients that have not improved in their function following surgical intervention. We will emphasize the four pillars of shoulder management: strength, mobility, instability and smoothness.

A WORD FROM OUR COURSE CHAIRMEN

“Evaluation and management of the postoperative shoulder can be a very challenging problem for the musculoskeletal physician and is compounded by difficulties with imaging the shoulder following surgery. Diagnostic ultrasound has been demonstrated as an effective and efficient modality for the evaluation and management of all shoulder disorders and has been extremely beneficial in the postoperative setting. This course unites the disciplines of Orthopedic Surgery and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation to maximize the evaluation and management of the postoperative shoulder patient with an emphasis on the utilization of diagnostic ultrasound. The course will center on disorders affecting of Shoulder Motion, Strength, Stability and Smoothness and includes both didactic lectures as well as hands on ultrasonography of post-surgical shoulder patients. Following this course, all musculoskeletal physicians should have a comprehensive understanding of current Orthopedic Shoulder procedures, their most common and challenging postoperative complications and should be confident with the ultrasonographic evaluation of these conditions.” Dean Ziegler, MD
