About Milan

Milan Patel is a dedicated second-year medical student with a strong passion for Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R) and Sports Medicine. His experiences in clinical settings, leadership roles, and mentorship have shaped his commitment to both patient care and medical education.

His interest in PM&R was strengthened by his participation in the Association of Academic Physiatrists (AAP) Medical Student Summer Clinical Experience, where he worked alongside PM&R physicians at Northwell Health. Through this program, he gained hands-on experience in both inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation, deepening his understanding of the field.

Clinical & Leadership Experience

🔹 AAP Medical Student Summer Clinical Experience (2024) – Spent 8 weeks working alongside PM&R physicians in various clinical settings.
🔹 TouroCOM PM&R Interest Group President (2024-Present) – Leads initiatives introducing medical students to PM&R.
🔹 AMSSM Medical Student Interest Group (MSIG) MS-2 At-Large Member (2024-Present) – Advocates for medical student engagement in sports medicine.
🔹 NYSPMR Outreach Committee & Pathways in PM&R Resource Team (2024-Present) – Works to expand opportunities for students in PM&R.
🔹 Garnet Health Medical Center Inpatient Rehabilitation Volunteer (2021-2023) – Assisted in patient care in a rehabilitation setting.

Beyond Medicine

Milan is deeply involved in adaptive sports and community health initiatives. As a volunteer with Beautiful People Adaptive Sports, he helps individuals with disabilities participate in sports and physical activities. Additionally, he is a New York State Area Health Education Center (NYS AHEC) Scholar, gaining further insight into community healthcare needs.

His passion for education extends to his work as a former MCAT and science tutor at Binghamton University, where he developed strong communication and mentorship skills—an experience that continues to influence his approach to medical training.

What Drives Milan

Milan is passionate about expanding educational opportunities in PM&R and Sports Medicine. He recognizes the importance of early exposure, hands-on learning, and mentorship, and he actively seeks ways to help fellow medical students navigate their own journeys in these fields.

Looking ahead, Milan hopes to continue building opportunities that bridge medical students with leaders in PM&R, sports medicine, and rehabilitation. His goal is to help students develop the skills, connections, and experiences they need to excel in their careers.

Why He Joined Expert Education’s Student Advisory Board

Milan’s experience at UltraSoundFest was a defining moment in his medical training. The hands-on learning, networking, and mentorship opportunities inspired him to help shape future events for students interested in PM&R and sports medicine. As a board member, he aims to:
Create more in-person and virtual events for students to advance their ultrasound skills.
Expand networking opportunities between students, residents, and attending physicians.
Advocate for early exposure to PM&R and sports medicine, ensuring students have the resources to explore these fields.
