MSK US of the Shoulder and Knee for the Occupational Medicine Physician: A Cadaveric Hands-On Injection Workshop

Program Overview

This course is designed for the occupational medicine physician who sees a consistent amount of musculoskeletal injuries. Many of these injuries are at the knee and shoulder and at times will require both diagnostic and therapeutic injection therapy for management. 

The course will emphasize ultrasound guided injections based upon a clear understanding of the anatomy for those practitioners that wish to provide further management at the point of care. Live models and cadavers will be used for training throughout the course.

The course will bridge the medical intervention with physical function.  An emphasis will be upon how ultrasound allows the clinician to safely place patients at maximum medical improvement and aid in the determination of safe work capacity.

Learning Objectives

  • Understand ultrasound machine optimization for highest resolution of the image
  • Understand the general anatomy as well as the sonographic anatomy of the knee
  • Understand the general anatomy as well as the sonographic anatomy of the shoulder
  • Address reasonable levels of work capacity in the face of the sonographic analysis
  • Bridge the sonographic analysis of the knee to appropriate techniques of therapeutic interventions
  • Bridge the sonographic analysis of the shoulder to appropriate techniques of therapeutic interventions
