Meet Anish Rana, a third-year medical student at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry, set to graduate in 2026. With a passion for medical education, mentorship, and sports medicine, Anish has taken on leadership roles in multiple national organizations, helping to shape the future of physiatry.

As a dedicated advocate for mentorship and networking, Anish serves on the Mentorship Subcommittee of the Association of Academic Physiatrists Medical Student Council, is Vice President of the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine Medical Student Interest Group, and contributes to the New York Society for Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Medical Student Outreach Committee. His leadership extends beyond academia, as he has successfully secured multiple national grants to fund basketball health camps in Rochester through Crossovers and Conversations, a program that engages underrepresented youth in health and wellness while inspiring them to consider careers in medicine.

Believing that strong ultrasound skills are essential for aspiring physiatrists, Anish is honored to serve as UltrasoundFest Chairman for Expert Education this year. His goal is to expand the impact of UltrasoundFest, successfully launching its second iteration this fall while fostering collaborations to bring musculoskeletal ultrasound workshops to a wider audience.

Anish joined Expert Education Institute to further develop his leadership and networking skills while helping others access the resources needed for success. He is also excited to be part of the Mentor Triangle, seeking guidance from experienced professionals in PM&R—especially those based in New York City, where he hopes to train one day.

His work with the Association of Academic Physiatrists, the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine, and the New York Society for PM&R showcases his ability to connect with peers and guide future healthcare professionals.

Anish is highly focused on building strong professional networks and is eager to help others do the same. His strategic mindset allows him to connect students, physicians, and mentors, ensuring that aspiring physiatrists have the tools they need to succeed.

His deep interest in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R) and Sports Medicine drives his work, and he is actively seeking mentorship to become a strong, competitive applicant in the field—ideally in New York City, where he hopes to train.
