John Cottingham is a third-year osteopathic medical student at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM), where he is actively engaged in advancing his education in musculoskeletal health and rehabilitation. His passion for hands-on learning βπ¬ and evidence-based medicine drives his commitment to enhancing patient care.
John’s academic journey is marked by excellence π, having graduated Summa Cum Laude from Loyola University Maryland in 2021 with a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry π§ͺ. He has successfully completed two years of rigorous medical education and passed the COMLEX Level 1 exam β . His dedication to sports medicine and research was showcased at the 2024 American Medical Society for Sports Medicine Annual Conference, where he presented a case study π. Additionally, John took part in the ExEd UltraSoundFEST: Student Physician MSK US Intensive Workshop in October 2024, reinforcing his skills in ultrasound-guided diagnostics π₯π.
Beyond academics, John is a leader and advocate for extracurricular learning ππ. He serves as Vice President of the Sports Medicine Club at PCOM π , where he helps organize events and fundraisers for medical causes such as the National Parkinson Foundation and the HEADstrong Foundation π. His leadership extends to mentoring fellow students as a PASS mentor π€ and working with Special Olympics Pennsylvania and Tim Tebowβs Night to Shine event, both of which foster inclusivity for individuals with special needs β€οΈβ¨.
Johnβs dedication to hands-on medical education led him to join the Student Advisory Board at Expert Education Institute. Having personally experienced the benefits of ultrasound workshops, he is eager to expand access to these learning opportunities π¬π. As a board member, he aims to bring more educational and networking events to the greater Philadelphia area, connecting medical students from the regionβs many institutions with career-oriented skills and mentorship ποΈπ€.
John brings a unique perspective to the board, combining his osteopathic training, sports medicine research, and leadership experience π‘. His background as a strength athlete πͺ, personal experience with musculoskeletal injuries, and years working in his fatherβs landscaping business π± have given him a deep appreciation for resilience, patient care and understanding underserved communities.
As a Student Advisory Board member, John is committed to fostering meaningful educational experiences ππ’, promoting interdisciplinary collaboration π€, and ensuring that medical students have access to the best training resources available ππ.
